The fabric technology of inherent flame resistant fabrics explained

Inherent flame resistant (FR) fabrics is an technology that ensures a high protection performance of a fabric. With inherent FR, at least one of the fibres used in the fabric has its own FR properties.

The most common FR fibres used in protective clothing are modacrylics and aramids. These fibres provide excellent protection against flames and heat.

The higher the performance level of the fibre, the lower the weight you need to achieve a certain level of protection. And as a wearer, we generally prefer lightweight clothing because it’s much more breathable and thus comfortable than heavier clothing.

We have the broadest FR portfolio in the market and within the inherent FR family we cover almost everything: from industrial clothing to turnout gear for fire services, as well as military solutions.

In order to create all these different types of fabrics for you, we harness in-depth knowledge on all the inherent FR fibres available in the market — whether that’s modacrylic, various aramids, niche fibres such as PBI and PBO, or Lenzing FR.
